vegetables and spices; and vendors
will tempt you with garments at unbelievable
prices.
The China town will fascinate you
by its atmosphere, its characteristic
smells and its shops filled with curios.
But you might well prefer to visit
one of its famous jewellery shops.
In Port Louis, you will find Temples,
Mosques, Churches and old military
fort dating from the days of English
colonisation, and offering you a superb
view of the city and the harbour.
At lunchtime you can choose a set
menu offering Creole food which you
can enjoy in the Veranda of a genuine
Colonial house, Eureka, now converted
into a museum, ten minutes from town.

| Mahebourg
/ Domaine du Chasseur |
| Mahébourg
is steeped in history. It was named
after Mahé de Labourdonnais,
French Governor of Mauritius, and was
the Capital of the island during the
French occupation. It is now more like
a large fishing village. Places of natural
and historical interest include the
new refurbished naval museum with pictures
and relics of the encounter between
the British and French ships at Île
de la Passe in 1810, and a cassava biscuit
factory created in 1870.
At Anse Jonchée, the road
winds up the mountains side through
pineapple plantations and magnificent
trees to Le Domaine du Chasseur. For
lunch we propose Venison at Le Domaine
du Chasseur OR Seafood lunch
at "Le Barachois" restaurant

| South-unspoilt |
The South coast has preserved
much of its primeval beauty.
At Gris Gris, for example
where the waves come crushing against
the cliffs.
Souillac will remind us of the Mauritian
Poet, Robert Edouard Hart, who spent
the last years of his life there.
In Rivière des Anguilles, we
shall have a guided tour of the 'La
Vanille Crocodile Park'.
Then onwards along the coast to Riambel,
Pomponette, Pointe aux Roches, villages
with quaint names which conjure up memories
of the past. |

| Le
Domaine Les Pailles |
| Ten
minutes from Port Louis, the capital,
at the foot of the mountains, a forgotten
valley, LE DOMAINE LES PAILLES.
Visitors will be able to rediscover
the old ways of living in an environment
surrounded by nature with old traditions
carefully revived.
Visitors will be first taken by horse
driven carriage or by train to the
RENDEZ-VOUS, where the visit begins.
The MILL, a true copy of the first
sugar mill of the ancient ISLE DE
FRANCE, will give the visitor the
opportunity to see how sugar was produced
during Pierre Poivre's century in
1770.
Complement to the Mill, the ALAMBIC,
a true replica of a model dating back
to 1758 found at the French archives
in Paris, allows us to distil our
own Rum.
Two hours drive in the mountain and
the valley on board Land Rovers with
unparalleled views on the western

We shall board this
historic XVIIth Century sailing craft
at Grand Bay. The skipper will present
your illustrious hostess before setting
sail out of the lagoon.
The swishing of the wind in the sails
the whistle punctuating the skipper's
orders to the crew, the deep blue waters
rushing alongside the boat sides….
will build up unforgettable souvenirs
to take back home.
"Isla Mauritia" will anchor
in the sheltered bay of Balaclava where
lunch will be served on the beach, which
can be reached by the shuttle boat or
by a swim.
Whilst the crew will prepare your lunch,
you will be able to discover the coral
outcrops. On the way back, the tropical
rhythm of the crew turned entertainers
will get into your body and you will
soon join in. |
